Resolved Question: What do you think of this self-defense shooting in Texas? The shooters are being charged as criminals…?
I thought Texas had strong laws protecting people who protect themselves? I guess not… why are these people being prosecuted for defending their property?

This happened outside of Houston, by the way:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30650051/

“A couple has been accused of opening fire and wounding four people — including a 7-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl — who they mistakenly thought were trespassing on their property.

The victims, who were off-roading near a residential area about 40 miles northeast of Houston, were struck with shotgun pellets late Thursday after stopping their vehicles near the Trinity River so the children could go to the bathroom, said Liberty County Chief Deputy Ken DeFoor.

Police said resident Sheila Muhs, 45, fired once with a 12-gauge shotgun, then handed it to her husband, Gayle Muhs, also 45. DeFoor said Sheila Muhs called 911 and told the dispatcher, “They’re out here tearing up the levee, so I shot them.”
Are you honestly telling me that if some kids were taking a leak on your property, you would bust out the shotty and light them up? Come on.

News Straddling Strategy (Part III)

Often new currency traders get confused and ask why a particular currency has rallied despite the negative economic figures about that country. Sometimes, the currency can decline on the release of positive news. You should understand the discounting effect in the forex market.

When there is good economic news about United States, commonsense says that US Dollar should appreciate. Similarly when there is bad economic news and there are signs of economic weakness, like unemployment and huge budget deficits, commonsense tell that US Dollar should depreciate. However, it can be the other way round. These types of effects confuse and bewilder new forex traders.

These types of effects can be attributed to the discounting mechanism of the forex market. A currency can go up on bad economic news. It can also go down on good economic news. What is the reason that a particular currency goes down despite good economic performance of that country or goes up despite bad economic performance of that country?

Traders try to take into consideration the future expectations about the currency in their present trading decisions. The markets inbuilt discounting mechanism is formed by the anticipatory reaction of the traders.

The traders will be bullish on JPY and go long now, if they have a positive view of the Japanese economy, thus pushing up the currency. But traders will be bearish on JPY and go short now, if they think that Japan will suffer from the rising oil prices in the near or medium term, thus pushing down the currency.

You must have heard the famous saying: Buy on the rumor and sell on the news. This is somewhat similar to this saying. Currency prices integrate the markets expectations about the future in this way. Market has already made up its estimates of those figures based on the work of analyst and economists in the major trading institutions like banks or funds even before the economic data is released for public consumption.

Suppose, the market thinks that the US Consumer Confidence Index to show a worse figure than the previous month. The efficient market hypothesis says that all available public information is immediately compounded into the prices of the securities. So the market has already compounded that information in the exchange rate of say EUR/USD way before the US Consumer Confidence Survey results are released to the public.

When the US Consumer Confidence Survey figures are released, what will move the market is the amount of deviation between the expectation and the actual figures. The currency pair EUR/USD was rallying due to poor market sentiment for USD.

This information has already been compounded into the currency prices. This is old news for the market if the released figures are almost the same as expected. No surprise was caused in the market. Markets dont like surprises. If the released figures and the expected figures had a wide variation, it would have caused a sudden volatile reaction in the markets. Once the surprise has been perceived and analyzed by the market, it stabilizes.

The release of the anticipated data or news can often cause the currency price to move in the opposite direction initially to where the market had positioned itself before the release of the news. This is due to traders closing their positions on the release the news and taking profit. After sometime the market adjust itself and the status quo prevails.

Suppose the US Consumer Confidence Index figures turn out to be almost the same as expected. EUR/USD pair may even end up declining with the USD strengthening even in the face of a negative consumer confidence number.

This contrarian market reaction is the result of traders who had gone long on EUR/USD closing their positions and taking profit on the news release. Thus the lack of any deviation between the expected and the actual figures may cause the currency pair to move sideways or even move in the opposite direction as the status quo remains.

Jeff Pauls Shortcuts to Internet Millions and the Online Marketing Business

What is SIM (Shortcuts to Internet Millions)?

The Shortcuts to Internet Millions program was created by Jeff Paul, an internet entrepreneur. The program originally sold on late night television via infomercials. Its available for purchase over phone and online. The SIM program claims to help one to start a successful marketing business online . The program includes pre-made websites to help in establishing an online marketing network, thus allowing one to make money from home and create a significant income.

Jeff Paul's Shortcuts to Internet Millions, Scam or Legit?

What are some of the positive, and negative, aspects of the program?

The SIM program claims to help someone make money fast with little knowledge of online marketing. This is one of the negative aspects of the program. For example, it doesn’t cover the basic knowledge needed to set up a domain name, which is like a baby step in the online marketing business. There is a problem with the provided pre-made websites as well. They have very long domain names that will most likely not get enough web traffic without additional traffic driving sites that have shorter domain names.

One positive aspect of the Shortcuts to Internet Millions program, is that it introduces people to internet marketing. It may not be a realistic depiction of how easy online income can be made, but it does allow one to begin thinking about, and researching, online money making opportunities. There are many different ways to make money online other than marketing, such as data entry work and paid surveys. The program does contain some valuable information on how to make money online.

Can the SIM program really help one to make $1,000,000?

I think that the SIM program doesn’t do entirely what it claims, which is to help people to make money fast. I don’t believe that the program itself can help people create over a million dollar income either. The bottom line is that the Shortcuts to Internet Millions program simply does not teach enough techniques for one to know exactly how to make a decent income on the internet.

Essential Tips For Those Interested in Home Improvement

As more homeowners are tackling home improvement, perhaps some do-it-yourself home improvement tips are necessary. But before discussing those, the number one reason why homeowners are undertaking these projects is to save money. But, it doesn’t end there! The pride involved is also a factor.

Aside from beautifying the room, many homeowners are taking on home improvement to improve their chances of selling their homes and coming out with more money in the end sale.

Regardless of whether you are male or female, if you’re somewhat handy, there are many projects at the weekend jobs that you can do to improve your home. One project that can increase the value of your home would be to update your kitchen. You can do this by refinishing your kitchen cabinets. Depending on the look you’re going for, it can be a long winding road, especially if intricate sanding is involved. But, even altering the color to a more in style one can help you sell your home faster.

Installing tiles on the floor or on the backsplash in the kitchen is another renovation that most people can handle, surprisingly. It isn’t as difficult as it seems, as long as you have the tools and equipment required. In this case, the major and most important tool would be the tile cutting machine. You don’t even have to buy it, as they can be rented from any hardware store.

The easiest type of home improvement that anyone can do is to paint. Simply painting your home can increase your chance to sell it faster and bring you the best return on investment. The only catch here is doing a very good job with the paintbrush and the roller. Some plastering may have to be done to repair some imperfections on the walls, which will then have to be sanded smooth. A good primer is always key to getting the best results in painting. Not only will it look better, but it will also be more economical as you will have to use less paint, which is more expensive than primer.

However, it would be recommended to consult and hire professionals when it comes to anything regarding electrical or plumbing, unless you’re knowledgeable in these field as well.

Whatever the case, almost any type of home improvement, be it necessary for proper maintenance or cosmetic, will make your house more sellable and more often than not, can provide more money to you. If you are new at this, however, try to start with smaller jobs before tackling the very large and difficult ones. This way, you’ll see if you are capable of completing a simple project, whereby if you can’t then you know that you should not be engaging in any more complex and time-consuming projects.

Buying A First Home

Couples who are seeking their first home can get caught up in the excitement of owning their first home and not pay close attention to details. The first hurdle is the down payment. Most lenders require a 10% to 20% down payment toward the purchase price of the home. There are programs for first time home buyers which may waive the down payment or make it considerably lower.

If you have never owned a home before, you may be eligible for first time buyer programs with government insured loans. These programs often have less stringent requirements for credit ratings and down payments than private lenders. If you are comfortable with your current rent payment, shop for a mortgage payment that will be about the same as your rent. A mortgage payment will help you build equity, a rent payment will not.

The first thing couples should do is to stick to their budget. I f that house so perfect for you but the price is beyond your means, don’t fantasize about job promotions and increased pay and think that you can swing it. Be realistic. Assess the price according to your present not future means. Should you get a pay increase, you can always make modest improvements on the house you bought. In the long term, you increase the value of your home and this will serve you well should you decide to sell your home at the right time.

Young newly-weds are always excited at the prospect of owning a house that they jump into a deal without examining what goes with the mortgage. They take the first offer that looks good on paper without knowing that there are fees and more fees attached to the deal.

Take a look at the required deposit and the disadvantages of having insufficient funds for the deposit. If you do not have the amount, the lender will slap on the insurance fee on the mortgage, increasing the mortgage amount by as much as $20,000. A no deposit mortgage may be tempting for professionals who can service the mortgage but cannot save for a deposit. Take note that these no-deposit loans have more requirements and there are still the standard fees to pay.

There is the closing fee that can be quite stiff for couples who are buying a house on shoestring budget. Add all these fees to the actual mortgage price and you get the picture. If the cost of the entire mortgage is beyond your humble budget, look for a cheaper home and shop for other lenders who can offer affordable fees and a lower interest rate. Always negotiate for lower closing costs; lenders are willing to listen and give you a discounted closing fee.

It is possible to compare the terms offered by different lenders online. There are websites that offer mortgage comparisons as a service to the public. The best mortgages for most people are fixed rate mortgages of 20 or 30 years. Adjustable rate mortgages can cause your monthly payments to go up suddenly, and balloon mortgages can cause refinance problems later.

With the mortgage information you need tucked under your belt, you can negotiate for a reasonable and affordable loan and keep your house for years. A dream house may not be for you, but you can make that house your dream house, one that is for keeps.
